A Lead or Sr Computational Research Scientist position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiang Chen in the department of Computational Biology to develop and apply innovative machine learning/statistical learning approaches to understand interactions between genetic alterations and epigenetic deregulations and to discover potential biomarkers for predicting drug responses in pediatric cancers. One of the premier pediatric research institutions in the world, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital provides exceptional resources, a collaborative environment, and access to extensive, unique cancer genomics datasets from large-scale research initiatives.Dr. Xiang Chen in the department of Computational Biology is looking for a talented and highly motivated candidate who have a strong background/interest in molecular biology and computational biology. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Chen and staff scientists/postdoctoral associates in his lab with the end goal of contributing to the discovery of novel (epi-)drivers and treatment protocols for pediatric cancers using high dimensional genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic and proteomic data generated from bulk or single-cell tumor specimens.The lab will provide working experience for a Computational Research Scientist who is interested in leading or participating in all aspects of cancer omics studies via multi-disciplinary teamwork with mentoring from Dr. Chen and other scientists. The selected candidate will have opportunities to interact with leaders in the fields of pediatric cancer and translational research within and outside the institution. Innovative research leading to high-impact scientific publication is highly encouraged and will be supported by the department's research infrastructure. For those with ambitious career goals, inter-disciplinary training will be provided to broaden or strengthen computational or biological expertise.The Chen Lab is recognized for developing innovative machine learning and statical learning approaches and has led intratumoral heterogeneity and epigenetic deregaultions in pediatric cancers, spearheaded publications in Genome Biology , Nucleic Acid Research , Neuron , Cancer Cells, Developmental Cells, Science immunology, Nature Communications and Med in the last five years and is funded by the NCI. The Department of Computational Biology is highly interactive with collaborative opportunities across basic and clinical departments and mentorship from faculty-level scientists with deep experience in machine learning, statistical learning, data analysis, data management and delivery of high-quality results for highly competitive projects. Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or related field. Master's degree or PhD preferred. Lead Computational Research Scientist Minimum Experience: Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience. Experience Exception: Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience (OR) PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience. Rough criteria for this position based on publication output: 3-4 first author papers IF > 10 (or equivalent contribution to other research outputs). Substantial experience in own technical area including advanced research techniques. Experience leading complex research studies in a technical capacity. Experience training and guiding early-career researchers. Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role. Senior Computational Research Scientist Minimum Experience: Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of relevant experience. Experience Exception: Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience (OR) PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience. Rough criteria for this position based on publication output: 1-2 first author papers IF > 10 (or equivalent contribution to other research outputs). Prior experience in computational research techniques and processes. Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role. Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
