Chief Financial Officer About Us The CARITAS creates a safe space to heal and time to rebuild. Our five programs provide solutions for shelter, recovery services, workforce development, and the furniture bank. CARITAS is currently seeking a CFO who will be a key member of the Executive Management team. The position will report to the CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company's financials and operations. The Chief Financial Officer will have a strong finance and operations background with day-to-day responsibility for planning, controlling and managing all financial and critical operational activities of the company . Position Objectives CARITAS is a growing nonprofit employing nearly 100 employees (51 full-time) in Richmond, Virginia. Learn more at www.caritasva.org . The CFO will report to the CEO and support the work of the Board of Directors and the finance team of the organization. Our primary objective is seeking a CFO who will act a thought partner and leader in the creation of CARITAS 2.0 (our next phase of development) along with the CEO and senior leadership team: Provide leadership for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives. Robust oversight of all financial functions of the CARITAS and its subsidiaries Maintain market awareness of industry trends, opportunities and turns Drive operational accuracy, efficiency and scalability through systems and process enhancements and IT infrastructure Prepare and present financial statements, balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial documentation Develop budgets for new business growth and strategy Work with Director of Finance and Accounting to establish controls and metrics Provide executive management with recommendations on the financial implications of business operations and activities Interface with auditors and tax advisors to advance company goals and objectives Align organization practices with financial management industry standards, best practices and fiduciary requirements Provide adequate segregation of fiscal responsibilities and duties Primary Responsibilities Serve as an internal consultant to the Board of Directors, CEO, Chief Development Officer, Chief Program Officer, and leadership team on all financial matters, as well as plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the fiscal policies, and activities of CARITAS including forecasting staffing needs, mitigating risk, managing budgets and forecasts. Primary Responsibilities: Coordinate and prepare for the meetings for the Board Finance and Audit Committees. Attend meetings and support the work of the Board and Committees Provide leadership over agency operations and collaborate with department leaders to ensure success. Ensure full transparency over the financial performance of the organization and its entities Lead the development and execution of an annual operating plan that fully supports the company's strategic plan and annual budget Manage financial controls and accounting practices Work closely with the organization's auditors to ensure a smooth and complete audit process Execute the financial strategy, proposing action plans to ensure that annual financial objectives are attained Effectively and clearly communicate potential risks in a timely manner Direct the annual budget process in cooperation with management and the board Provide timely and accurate reporting of operational metrics and key performance indicators to drive business growth and profitability Utilize technology to optimize all reporting and analytical functions Motivate and mentor current staff, including the Director of Finance Serve in a fiduciary capacity with the organizations retirement plan(s) Other work, as assigned Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting or related area, MBA, MFAand/or CPA highly desirable. A combination of education, credentials and work experience will be considered. 10 years of successful experience as a senior level executive 10+ years in a progressively responsible financial and operational leadership role. Non-profit experience a plus Skilled with Outlook, Word, Excel, and financial systems and integrations. Effectively uses discretion and independent judgment without supervision. Successfully complete pre-employment background screening. Must possess a valid Virginia state driver's license and have knowledge of all federal, state and local compliance and safety regulations. The ability to work with contractors and outside suppliers and work well with our client population are necessary. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Status: This is a full time position Supervisor: President & CEO Location: 2220 Stockton Street, Richmond, VA, 23224 Salary: $135,000 - $150,000 depending on experience; benefits include health insurance coverage, dental insurance, life insurance, generous PTO, and 403B with a 4% match after six months.
