For more information visit our website at: www.ccs-soaz.org. OVERVIEW: Serves individuals who are deafblind , deaf-plus , and older Deaf persons by providing supports that enhance independence. Relays visual and environmental information and as well as provides human guide support and transportation to and from activities and events. Transports these indiv iduals using agency and/or rental vehicles. Conducts technology assessments, technology installation, and training for iCanConnect (FCC). Responsible for maintenance of demonstration technology for iCanConnect. Extensive statewide travel (New Mexico) may be required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to: Coordinates iCanConnect/FCC Program activities with COPD-NM's Client Services Program Director Works with the COPD-NM's Client Services Program Director, the iCanConnect Program at the Perkins School for the Blind, and other federal, state, local agencies/organization to identify individuals who are deafblind and may be eligible for the FCC's National Deafblind Equipment Distribution Program (aka. iCanConnect) Performs technology assessments according to FCC guidelines to include: communication skills, visual acuity, hearing loss, learning style, supports needed Arranges and conducts installations, trainings, repairs/exchanges of technology dispensed to individuals participating in the program Works to make sure that assessments and trainings are done to support the needs of individuals who are deafblind seeking FCC services Matches technological needs of the consumer with the proper equipment to support telecommunication needs Responsible for data base entries - including adding consumers to the database, preparing material requests, assessment/training reports, repairs/exchanges, etc. - into the iCanConnect database Prepares and submits monthly information - including billing - to the Client Services Program Director Maintains inventory of demonstration technology for the iCanConnect program Supports the independence of these individuals in the community by relaying information about the environment and providing communication access at all times Provides mobility/travel, communication, and other supports to individuals who are deafblind, deaf-plus, or older Deaf who are conducting errands, participating in community events, and other self-directed activities Provides text access/translation by reading these individuals' mail (correspondence and bills) and signs in the environment as well as assist individuals in completing forms Assist individuals in telephonic communications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position and will be considered by the Corporate Director of Human Resources. Associates or two years of post-secondary education, or, 1 year equivalent experience working with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind, or low vision. Basic American Sign Language skills, skills in reading/producing materials in uncontracted Braille, or basic skills in other alternate communication modes used by individuals who are deafblind or deaf-plus plus (e.g., tactile signing, print-on-palm, tangible symbols, etc.) Ability to train others on the use of computer and/or assistive technology Ability to install technology used by individuals who are deafblind Ability to identify and trouble shoot problems with technology used by individuals who are deafblind Proven ability to write clear and easily understandable reports in standard English Proven ability to lift 35 pounds 15% of the time DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in technology, vision, audition, rehabilitation, education, or other related fields Additional years of experience working with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind, or low vision Fluency and/ or Certification (and/or Licensure in New Mexico) in Sign Interpreting or Sign Transliteration (i.e.: Interpreter III - NAD4, or RID CI or CT, or EIPA 4.0, or NIC Certified or Interpreter IV - RID CI and CT, or CSC, or CDI/RSC, or NAD5, or EIPA 5.0, or NIC Advanced) Certification or evidence of completion of uncontracted Braille course Certification or evidence of completion of contracted Braille course (Unified English Braille) Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities Experience working with individuals with fine and/or gross motor disabilities Applicable knowledge in the assessment and modification of the environment to enhance the use of residual vision and/or audition by individuals who are deafblind or deaf-plus Knowledge and use of varied communication modes used by individuals who are deafblind or deaf-plus to include tactile signing, Braille, communication board/devices, and/or tangible symbols Proficient in using assistive/access technology and software for individuals who are deaf, blind, deafblind (i.e., ZoomText, JAWS, Apple's VoiceOver/Zoom, Windows Eyes, etc.) Proficient in the use of assistive listening devices Proficient in the use of low vision devices (optical and non-optical) Additional years of directly related experience First Aid and CPR certification AGENCY REGULATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age Valid Driver's License, proof of insurance, and 36-Month MVR Report Ability to obtain and maintain FBI / CJIS Fingerprint Clearance Pass pre-employment drug screen (incudes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) The above statement reflects the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the job.
