# RPM The Student Success and Career Services Coach works in conjunction with the Director of Student Success and Retention Services to manage the Career Services aspects of the Center, providing services and activities that meet student, community, departmental, divisional, and institutional career needs. The Student Success and Career Services Coach provides academic advisement and maintains a caseload of currently enrolled students. S/he offers students resources for career exploration, interprets career assessments, and helps students to research employment trends. Additionally, this position oversees the training of other Student Success Coaches across the college to ensure they are adequately prepared to assist students with career interest inventories, job search strategies, resume writing, mock interviewing, and interviewing skills. S/he will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the colleges annual Career Fair. The Student Success and Career Services Coach works to build relationships with local employers encouraging the hiring of our graduates. This individual performs additional duties as determined by the Director of Student Success and Retention Services. Duties/Functions Provide academic advising and career exploration services for new and continuing face-to-face and online students. Use career assessment instruments and job market data to help students explore career and educational options. Evaluate incoming transcripts and track completed courses to ensure students are guided to appropriate courses. Make students aware of campus and community resources, including online student services and academic support services. Provide students with information related to resume writing, interviewing skills, and general job search strategies. Develop and manage relationships with area employers, encouraging on-campus recruiting and promotion of all open positions. Develop, advertise, and present informational workshops to prepare students for the job search process, highlighting resume writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, and resources for all areas. Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with faculty with an emphasis on employer outreach activities. Provide continual training to all Student Success Coaches and faculty with regard to pertinent Career information and resources for students. Plan, develop, advertise, execute, and manage all aspects of the annual college Career fair, promoting opportunities for students to connect with potential employers. Seek collaboration with individuals from other areas within the Student Support Services division and instructional Deans to ensure successful event. Participate in college training offerings, departmental meetings, and statewide and regional professional development opportunities to improve knowledge and skill base and proficiency in the field. Collaborate as a team member on delivery of career services, student retention initiatives, information nights/open houses, job fairs, transfer fairs, orientations, and Student Success workshops as needed. Participate in community outreach programs/presentations with the college Admissions Recruiter or faculty members as appropriate. Market employment opportunities to all students through the maintenance of the college job board. Work collectively with instructional departments to provide career services to their students. Administer and interpret career interest/ability instruments, review, interpret, and evaluate applicant test scores and other information to determine course placement. Collect data and participate in the assessment of services as requested by the Director. Evaluate the effectiveness of Career Services activities on a regular basis. Work collaboratively with instructional departments to provide appropriate advising services to students. Actively serve as an effective member to appointed college committees. Demonstrate and model the Colleges employability skills: Adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Participate in departmental meetings and serve on institutional committees as assigned. Education Preferred Masters degree in social science, education, social work, psychology, counseling, business, human resources, communication, or related field. Experience Required Three years of experience in career services, job placement services, workforce development, human resources or related field. One year of career advising/guidance experience that includes administering career assessments, teaching job search techniques, explaining labor market information, and helping students set academic and career goals. Experience developing and directing career workshops and programs. Experience Preferred Greater than three years of experience in career services, job placement services, workforce development, human resources or related field. Greater than one year of career advising/guidance experience that includes administering career assessments, teaching job search techniques, explaining labor market information, and helping students set academic and career goals. Experience with post-secondary academic advising that includes assisting students with program selection, educational plans, course scheduling, and registration. Experience planning and leading special events such as employer recruiting events and career fairs. Experience in community outreach to assess business/industry needs and develop strong employer partnerships. KSA Required Demonstrated expertise in the area of Career Services to include knowledge of career exploration steps as well as administering and interpreting career assessment tests. Ability to utilize data to assess practices and effectiveness of programs. Ability to work effectively with diverse students including first generation college students, students from under-represented populations, and students transitioning from adult high school programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships working effectively and cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, administration and the general public. General knowledge and experience working with multicultural post-secondary students. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrate knowledge, good judgment, and the willingness to support and enforce college policy and procedures and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently, as well as in a collaborative team environment, using good judgment, analytical skills, and problem solving skills while upholding college procedures and policies and promoting teamwork within the organization. Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including college related software and email. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Ability to adapt in a changing workplace environment that is focused on student retention and success. Ability to work effectively with special populations of students. Exhibited skills in advising techniques, interpersonal relations, communications, test interpretation, transcript evaluation, and career development. KSA Preferred Knowledge of academic advising at the community college student level. Knowledge of current and emergent practices in higher education that facilitate student success. Familiarity with integrating online and web-based tools that support academic advising and college retention efforts. General knowledge of the history, philosophy, and mission of the community college system. Department/Job Specific Requirements Must become proficient in Datatel Colleague screens used for registration, graduation and records maintenance. Ability to work a flexible work schedule as determined by the supervisor to cover the necessary hours. Registration, graduation, and other heavy work periods will require additional hours. Evening and weekend work may be required. Must be able to maneuver independently among offices, buildings, campus locations, and off-site locations as necessary to complete job requirements. Departmental work hours are from 8 am to 6 pm Monday through Thursday and 8 am to 5 pm on Friday; a flexible work schedule will be determined by the supervisor to cover the necessary hours. Registration, graduation, and other heavy work periods will require additional hours. Evening and weekend work may be required Physical abilities are of a typical office environment involving: sitting, standing, keyboarding, and light lifting Other travel as required by the position.
