This is a safety-sensitive job for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. Purpose: To be responsible for fiber optic splicing and maintenance and installation of Member services on AVECC/WAVE fiber-to-the-home network. Responsible for testing and finding issues within an optic network. Responsibilities: Within the limits of approved board policies, operating guides and procedures, approved budgets, and specific delegation from the Fiber Project Coordinator, the OSP Fiber Technician assumes the responsibility for the following activities, while recognizing the continuing responsibility of this position for developing and maintaining a favorable Cooperative image consistent with the Cooperative's Strategic Goals: As an OSP Fiber Technician: Be able to perform both fusion and mechanical fiber splicing. Fiber optic troubleshooting, including OTDR, light meter reading, and other test gear. Perform construction related duties including buried and aerial drops and network extensions. Perform maintenance and emergency repairs on both Aerial and Underground fiber optic cable. Be able to build both mainline and drops according to AVECC/WAVE standards. Be a team player and maintain good relations in all contacts with the public. Be able to work from heights including pole, ladder, and bucket truck. Will work on special projects as needed (independently or with a team). Assist in developing long range plans for future cooperative fiber optic needs. Ability to work with various vendors and contractors for fiber optic systems across the cooperative. The OSP Fiber Technician shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the company. Successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have all faculties necessary to meet position requirements and present a neat favorable professional appearance. Skills and Abilities: Skills: Must be skilled at project management. Should be proficient in the use of personal computers. Good communications skills both written and oral are required. Must be a problem solver and future oriented. Job position requires legible handwriting. Must be able to read and understand fiber design maps. Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Abilities: Ability to handle a variety of diverse tasks and organize work to meet deadlines. Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to communicate effectively with co-workers. Successful applicant must hold a valid Arkansas driver's license. Must have or be able to obtain a Class A CDL. Working Conditions: This position will require indoor and outdoor working conditions. Normal working hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the limits of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Must be able to work weekends, nights, and after normal working hours as needed to maintain Cooperative fiber systems. Education and/or Experience: Must have High school diploma or GED equivalent.Five years' experience in telecommunications specializing in fiber optic construction, drop construction and fiber splicing required.
