position summary In this full-time position, the Geologist - Contaminated Sites Specialist will join a Contamination/Due Diligence Team to conduct environmental field monitoring for active construction sites, conduct desktop contamination reviews, and complete Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Phase II Investigations for transportation, energy infrastructure, and redevelopment projects. This position requires technical knowledge of field monitoring equipment, soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling, and using desktop resources to identify risk of encountering contaminated media on construction sites. responsibilities The following responsibilities are general duties that an employee in this position may be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary. Completing construction monitoring for transportation, redevelopment, and utility projects, including field screening, field reports, soil and groundwater sampling, impacted media management and documentation, and use of various field equipment (photoionization detector (PID), 4-gas meter, etc.) Assisting with Phase I ESAs and Phase II Investigations for transportation, redevelopment, and energy infrastructure projects. Conducting desktop contamination reviews for energy infrastructure projects, including the development of Construction Contingency Plans/Health and Safety Plans. Drafting technical reports, including Phase I ESAs, Phase II Drilling Investigation reports, Response Action Plans (RAPs) and Construction Contingency Plans (CCPs), and construction monitoring reports Assisting with field Stormwater Inspections. required qualifications The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience: S. in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Earth Science, Environmental Chemistry, or closely related field. 2-5 years of professional environmental experience. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certified or ability to obtain certification upon employment. Proficiency with the operation and maintenance of field equipment, including photoionization meters and 4-gas meters. Proficiency with environmental construction monitoring, including collection of GPS data points, soil and groundwater sampling, soil classification, field screening, and creation of daily field reports. Must be willing to conduct field work locally within the Twin Cities Metro area as needed. Strong self-starter tendencies and excellent organizational/task management skills. Ability to adapt quickly and ask questions as they arise. Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a larger team. Ability to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and translate that information into direct, easy to understand written deliverables.
