Position Title: Utility Maintenance Mechanic III- Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance and Repair Technician Department: Utilities FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Union Code/Affiliation: Local 108 Division: Wastewater Treatment Job Description Summary: Are you skilled in mechanical maintenance and repair? Do you enjoy troubleshooting and ensuring the proper functioning of equipment critical to community infrastructure? If so, the City of Columbia has an exciting opportunity for you as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance and Repair Technician! In this role, you'll oversee and perform skilled work involving the maintenance and repair of our city's wastewater treatment plant and sewer pump stations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on plant equipment, building, plumbing, and electrical fixtures. Direct and oversee work assignments, ensuring high-quality workmanship. Monitor and maintain inventory and supplies to support ongoing operations. Provide guidance, training, and assistance to less experienced employees to foster skill development. Participate in the upgrading of plant equipment to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Order necessary parts and materials to ensure uninterrupted operation of wastewater plant and building equipment. Supervisory Responsibilities: While this position does not have direct supervisory authority, you will provide guidance and training to others. Fiscal Responsibility: Limited fiscal responsibility may include assisting in data collection for budget allocations and monitoring division budget and expenditures. Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Five years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair. Licenses or Certifications: Valid driver's license. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical maintenance. Skill in conducting electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing repair and maintenance. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems related to plant maintenance. Proficiency in communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience. Work Environment: Be prepared for frequent exposure to various environmental conditions and hazards, including outdoor work and exposure to moving mechanical parts. Hours/Days: Enjoy a steady schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with infrequent after-hours work expected. Starting Salary: Competitive starting salary ranging from $24.94 to $36.41 per hour, commensurate with experience.
