What You Will Be Doing The Controller should be experienced in all aspects of financial management, regulatory and financial reporting, budgets, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. The Controller will report to the Divisional CFO. The Controller should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an excellent understanding of the construction business and real estate accounting principles . Essential Job Functions Supervise month-end and year-end close process including review of work and reports. Manage the team of Staff Accountants in their daily assignments. Prepare timely monthly consolidated financial statements. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. Knowledge of US GAAP and other financial standards and requirements. Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, variance reports and financial dashboards. Expert at software to report, analyze and operate a construction accounting operation. Prepare regulatory reporting including annual and periodic review audits. Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. Research technical accounting issues for compliance and assist CFO as needed. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Understanding of taxation, payroll, and other fiscal aspects of a business. Assist management of all accounting operations. Additional duties, as necessary. Advocate for appropriate academic, technical and leadership training and development opportunities for all team members. Recruit and develop teams with an appropriate mix of experience, capabilities, and skills to consistently meet company goals and departmental initiatives in the most cost-effective manner. Ensure effective succession planning for all pivotal positions. Qualifications and Requirements 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience. Experience in the construction industry required. ​​​​​​​CPA preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures. Experience in project accounting, job costing and POC revenue recognition. Experience with financial statement preparation for all types of legal entities. Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process and consolidations and reconciliations. Experience in preparing and reviewing corporate payroll and tax filings. Experience with accounting software systems administration. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
