JOB DESCRIPTION Youth Apprenticeship program for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Facilities Maintenance division.PositionHVACSkills NecessaryPre-Apprentice applicants should have skills in the following forms in order to succeed within this programSkilled with using basic tools for the warm and conditioned air HVAC tradeHas strong command of both simple and complex mathematical concepts for both algebra and geometryFamiliarity with common hand toolsExcellent customer service skills and a professional demeanorRESPONSIBILITIES Skills to be LearnedThe following are the skills and abilities that apprentices will have the opportunity to learn from hands on experienceLearn to install and change duct work on both residential and commercial premisesLearn to solder and braze piping connectionsAbility to proficiently read and use meters, gauges, and other measuring devise necessaryLearn to install hangers holding duct work, wires, line work, and condensation drainsLearn to change thermostats, evaporator coils, and compressorsAbility to program controls to allow for energy conservation while still providing optimal temperatureProgramYouth Apprenticeship-HVACLength of ProgramThe length of the program will vary from 12-24 months depending on current grade during start of program, licensing, and certificate opportunities.Number of PositionsWithin the first term of the Youth Apprenticeship, there will be 1 available position as this is a Pilot.Permanent PositionYouth Apprentices will have the opportunity to apply for HVAC Apprentice position upon high school graduation and successful performance in the Youth Apprenticeship programApplication ProcessApplicants for the HVAC Youth Apprenticeship program must be enrolled as a junior or senior at one of the participating high schools. Applicant must also obtain recommendations from the teacher of the qualifying CTAE program as well as personal character reference from non-school personnel. Apply online at www.atantaga.govCompensation for ProgramSalary for this position is $17 per hour.ScheduleWork based Learning students will work a maximum of 20 hours per weekThe 20 hour per week schedule will fall between 7am and 7pm, Monday-Friday.*Hours may increase during the summer months to a 40-hour workweek.QUALIFICATIONS Minimum RequirementsMust have a valid US drivers license.*The Airport environment is safety sensitive and requires that all applicants undergo a drug screen, fingerprinting background check, and pass a Security Threat Assessment.
