We currently have an opening for a Lab Administration Research Technician in the laboratory of Dr. Kara Marshall within the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine. The Marshall lab studies interoception, which is the nervous system's representation of sensations from within the body. The lab focuses on mechanical force sensation, which is a critical part of many systems. Overall, investigations in the Marshall lab will define how the brain senses the body. For more information about the Marshall lab and their research, please visit https://www.themarshalllab.com/.This role is an integral part of the lab and will be responsible for supporting the Investigator and lab members in administrative and technical functions. These functions including ensuring adequate supplies for experimental needs and mouse colony management. What You'll Do: Provide a variety of administrative and research technician support to the Investigator, to include:Assist scientists and technicians by performing various research procedures and operating instruments and other scientific equipment.Coordinating lab's mouse colony of up to 280 cages, including tailing and tagging, supporting tissue culture, and genotyping, etc.Maintain laboratory consumables and reagent inventories. Order and receive supplies and equipment.Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.Contributes to continuity of laboratory operations and may perform routine techniques in support of research projects.Coordinates tasks and projects within workload to ensure goals are met. What You Bring: Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.Experience working in an administrative and laboratory work environment.Prior experience with mouse handling a strong preference.Ability to manage a variety of responsibilities simultaneously while remaining flexible to handle changing priorities.Excellent interpersonal skills and propensity to receive instructions and training.Ability to remain organized and communicate clearly amongst different team members.Experience working with mouse colonies is highly preferred. Physical Requirements: Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.
