She enjoys wandering and romping in the fenced yard, with much sniffing. She likes people – men and women, our grandchildren and adults. And she really likes dogs. She gets along well with our very energetic resident beagle. He has been a great help in building her confidence and comfort in our home. She is not intimidated by him – and holds her own in dog conversations about who gets to sit where or has which toy. She is just discovering the fun of toys and romps with our dog when he plays fetch.Rainbow likes peanut butter kongs and does a wonderful happy dance when her food bowl appears. She is very gentle when taking treats – and likes to reach for them, or just nibble them from the floor.Rainbow likes to have her people at home. When left alone, she squeaks or howls for a bit – and watches for your return. When she is left alone with our dog, she settles more quickly than when left totally alone. She likes back scratches and belly rubs but rarely snuggles in our laps. She prefers to rest on pillows in the corner of the couch. She is not crated during the day and has the run of the house. She sleeps in her crate at night. She potties in the yard. Her only “accidents” were when we failed to notice her signals to go out. We are retired and most times one of us is home, but she has done fine when we are both gone for a couple of hours. She likes to explore – gratefully she is too small to reach the tops of counters, but if food is left near the edges, she’ll find it. As with some rescues, Rainbow seems to have had a hard time for her first 4 years and lacked some basic experiences – such as leash walks and car rides. She has made great progress but her new family will need to be patient. She is learning to be comfortable on a leash – does better when walking with another dog.We think Rainbow will do best in a home experienced with rescue dogs, a fenced yard, and another resident dog. We do not have a cat and she has expressed a strong negative reaction to seeing cats in our yard.NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).If you have any questions or would like to adopt RAINBOW, please reach out to the adoption group directly.
