This position is for federally contracted detention officer position that falls under the scope of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The position is located in Miami, Florida at the Krome Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service Processing Center. The detention officer position is a multi-encompassing and dynamic job that requires physical, mental and cognitive abilities associated with a detention facility.ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned. * Perform all duties as directed in accordance with ICE Performance Based National Detention Standards. These standards can be found at: 2011 Operations Manual ICE Performance-Based National Detention Standards | ICE * Perform all applicable duties as directed and in accordance with the American Correctional Association (ACA) * Perform all applicable duties and responsabilties as directed and in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) * Follow and abide by company polices and directives * Respond to emergency situations, such as fires, evacutations, facility disturbances, riots, etc. * Prevent and detect contraband from entering/ exiting facitliy. * Prevent and detect escape attempts. * Observe, prevent, and report all instances of disorder or non-compliance as directed by ICE and GPS policies and procedures.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Required (Minimum) Qualifications * 21 years of age when applying for position or older * U.S. Citizen or LPR * Not Currently Employed by federal agency or active-duty military * HS Graduate or GED * Ability to obtain and keep a state security license (Noncommission/Commission) * 1 Years detention/Security Experience (prison, detention center, etc.) * Pass Government Background Checks * Pass Drug screening * Pass Physical Screening / Test to include SF-88 examination. * Commerical Drives License (CDL) when applicable. * Ability to obtain and maintain a state security guard license (unamed or armed)Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics * Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Must be a professional and have the ability to tactfully ineract with the public and non-citizens * Physically capable of responding to emergencies, such as running with a fire extinguisher. * Capable of understanding and applying written and verbal orders, rules, and regulations. * English literacy and ability to write reports in English * Meet and maintain physical/health requirements for duties. * Ability to use Computer Programs, such as Microsoft Excel and Word.Preferred * Bachelor's degree from Accredited University * 2 years' experience in detention center or prison setting. * Ability to speak, write and comprehend a second language (Spanish or any language) * Valid state security license (Non commission level 2/Commission level 3)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential job functions will require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing, and complex movements for prolonged periods of time.Applicants must be able to perform through pat-down searches and be able to physically search physical structures for contraband. * Maintain physical fitness standards related to this position throughout your employment. * Applicants must also be able to respond to physical disturbances that are violent in nature. Applicant must be able to assist in quelling physical altercations, as well as defending themselves from physical assault. * Applicants must be able to respond to emergency situations, such as fires and run for prolonged distances with a fire extinguisher. * Must be able to lift heavy object up to 50lbs frequently and up to 70lbs occasionally. * Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time in extreme climates. * Must have the ability to stand, bend, sit, walk, twist, read, climb and reach for extended periods of time and while outdoors.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job is performed in a multitude of settings. There are various positions that could tentatively be performed on any given 8 - 12 hour day. These include the following:Exposure to extreme climate temperatures and conditionsExposure to sun and climate conditions, to include standing up and/or walking for more than 8 hours.Sitting at desk and periodically walking to conduct security checksUtilizing computers in offices or buildingsConfined to office space for more than 8 hoursDOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS * This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES * No supervisory responsibilities.ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORSAs a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.Shareholder Preference.
