Responsibilities:To ensure quality and accuracy in housekeeping and other related tasks as assigned in university buildings and submit written reports to the Associate Director of Housekeeping. May be required to oversee special projects, conduct special inspections and perform general housekeeping tasks and all other duties as assigned by the Director. This is an Essential Position and is subject to shift changes, location changes and mandatory overtime including weekends when required. * Ensures quality and accuracy in housekeeping and other related tasks as assigned in university buildings; * Establishes cleaning schedules and monitors cleaning operations as they are in progress and upon completion to ascertain the overall cleanliness of buildings; * On a daily basis identifies document and report the following: cleaning deficiencies, building maintenance problems, security issues, safety issues, pest control issues, emergency incidents and classroom furniture inventory and will work with staff to correct issues; * Monitors established security and safety procedures in all assigned buildings, documents and reports after hour activity in buildings such as student activity and maintenance work; * Monitors use of lighting and other energy-consuming utilities to ensure conservation by staff; * Responsible for coordinating emergency service response in case of flooding or fire etc.; * Program Quality Assurance: * Inspects all assigned buildings and submits daily inspection and observation reports to the Associate Director of Janitorial Services; * Inspects spaces before and after cleaning to ascertain that contract employees are securing spaces as required; * Acts as liaison between housekeeping staff and building occupants to eliminate interference from either party; * Removes broken or unsafe furniture from classrooms if feasible and reports location to the Housekeeping Office daily; * Inspections are to be thorough and conducted in a proficient and timely manner. Reports are to be truthful, detailed, accurate and complete in all respects. Reports are to document all time spent on the job; * Inspects classrooms daily and inventory furnishings, locates missing desks, chairs, tables and returns to assigned classroom; * Establishes inspection schedules, inspections may be based on sampling or 100% inspection. Inspects and verifies completion of work orders; * Documents action taken in nightly report; * Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to work additional hours in the event of an emergency. This may require reporting to work early, staying late, and/or working weekends. Employee is also designated as "Essential Personnel." All essential personnel employees are required to report for snow removal or other emergency when assigned; and * Supports the Associate Director of Housekeeping and the Sr. Director of Facilities Management in completing other related duties and reports as needed. Required Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent; * Significant experience in housekeeping and janitorial services; * Considerable experience supervising staff and overseeing housekeeping operations; * Knowledge of cleaning methods and housekeeping equipment; * Knowledge of hand tools and equipment used in housekeeping services and ability to use same; * Skill in the use of Microsoft Office or other similar computer program; * Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal, reading, and writing); * Ability to keep records and produce reports; * Ability to organize and plan work schedules and set priorities; * Ability to work effectively with all organizational levels; and * Valid drivers license; must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review. Preferred Qualifications: * Considerable experience in an education environment; and * Knowledge of housekeeping service requirements in an education setting.
