Reports to: Practice Administrator Job Overview: Team lead will oversee the workflow and day-to-day activities of our billing department. Responsible for leading the Medical Billing team and serving as a key resource to the administrator and the practice in all matters related to our revenue cycle. Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To: Coordinate established processes with our third-party RCM team. Assist in department functions to include but not limited to; balancing, posting patient payments, making bank deposits, generating statements, working patient collections, generating reports, working AR requirements, communicating with providers or payors as needed Ensure timely follow-up on claims filed and posted by monitoring our RCM communications. Lead and assist the team with necessary actions to resolve rejected or denied claims. Ensure that patient collections and refunds are processed in a timely manner. Assist in establishing and implementing departmental initiatives. Devise or revise SOP’s as needed. Measure and monitor workflow and assign duties and responsibilities as appropriate. Identify inefficiencies and make recommendations for improvement. Prepare and provide periodic department status and metrics updates. Facilitate meetings as needed. Function as a leader in coaching, training, motivating, and directing staff. Review work of billing staff to ensure accuracy, resolving inconsistencies as needed. Provide feedback to practice administrator in evaluating the billing team. Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of practice policies and implementing them as necessary. Maintain security and privacy of all practice and patient information in compliance with HIPAA. Ensure that the billing team maintains a high level of customer service when assisting patients, co-workers, insurance companies, and our RCM team. Serve as liaison between patients and medical staff. Assist with all escalated patient billing questions or concerns. Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of responsibility. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of medical billing experience (optometry a plus). Working knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid guidelines preferred. Demonstrated experience in leading a department or process. Ability to act with discretion, tact, and professionalism in all situations. Ability to manage competing priorities and work in a high-volume environment. Ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Resourcefulness with the ability to work independently and within a team. Ability to “think on your feet”, demonstrating strong critical thinking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with Google Workspace is a plus. Powered by JazzHR
