SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including, but not limited to, initial and follow-up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provides services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as-needed basis. SHS operates its main clinic on the Mason Fairfax campus and smaller clinics on the Mason Square (Arlington) and SciTech (Prince William) campuses.About the Position:The Health Promotion Nurse Practitioner works with the Student Health Services (SHS) leadership team and campus and community partners to evaluate social determinants of health and enact changes to improve health equity among the George Mason student population. The Health Promotion Nurse Practitioner also provides direct patient care as part of the SHS provider team.Responsibilities: * Serves as a key member of the Student Health Services (SHS) team promoting access to care, and reduction of health disparities. Identifies metrics to monitor and plan interventions. Trains SHS staff and outside entities on topics related to social determinants of health. Collaborates with other departments at Mason and in the surrounding community to support increased access to care for a larger student population. Provides work direction for Graduate Assistant and collaborates with Health Promotion Nurse; * Provides quality outpatient urgent care and primary care to undergraduate and graduate students. Such care may include both direct treatment and health education. Such care is performed in-person at SHS in Fairfax and potentially by telehealth. May include weekend and evening coverage as needed; * Participates in relevant meetings at SHS, including, but not limited to, daily Huddle and weekly Provider meetings. Serves on SHS Committee(s) as assigned; * Participates in University Life events and activities when SHS staff are invited to such events and SHS responsibilities allow participation; and * Performs other related duties at Mason when approved by SHS leadership. Such duties may include, but are not limited to, member of the mental health and wellbeing task force. Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program; * Certification as a Nurse Practitioner; * Virginia Nurse Practitioner License; * Registered Nurse License in Virginia or Multi-state; * DEA License, or be eligible to obtain; * CPR Healthcare Provider Certification required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire; * Demonstrated experience in providing medical care as NP, either via NP program alone or including NP experience post NP training; * Demonstrated understanding of social determinants of health; * Ability to build professional relationships to partner within the university and the community to address healthcare needs of students from diverse backgrounds; * Ability to provide quality outpatient medical care to college age population; * Demonstrated effective communication and problem-solving skills; and * Autonomous Practice eligible or willing to obtain within 1 year of hire, preferred. Preferred Qualifications: * Substantial experience in providing medical care as NP, typically obtained in 3+ years of medical experience post NP training; * Experience working with college students; * Experience working with multidisciplinary staff; * Demonstrated ability to provide medical care in a college health center; * Demonstrated clinical skills; and * Understanding of public health and community health.
